Winter Tidy Tips

Winter is a great time to clean indoors (as well as do certain other things in the home), especially since we spend more time inside during the colder months. Here are some practical residential winter cleaning tips to help keep your home fresh and healthy:

🧼 Indoor Cleaning Tips

1. Clean Heating Vents and Radiators

  • Dust and vacuum vents or baseboard heaters.

  • Remove radiator covers and wipe them down.

  • Replace HVAC filters if you haven’t in the last 2–3 months.

2. Wash Windows and Window Sills

  • Cold air can seep in through dirty or drafty windows.

  • Clean with a vinegar-water solution to avoid chemical residue.

  • Check for mold or condensation buildup.

3. Deep Clean Floors

  • Salt, mud, and snow get tracked in easily.

  • Vacuum and mop entryways regularly.

  • Shampoo carpets or use a carpet cleaner to remove salt stains.

4. Declutter and Dust Hidden Spots

  • Focus on behind furniture, ceiling fan blades, baseboards, and light fixtures.

  • Use microfiber cloths to trap dust without spreading it.

5. Disinfect High-Touch Surfaces

  • Especially important during cold & flu season.

  • Clean doorknobs, remote controls, switches, and cabinet handles weekly.

πŸšͺ Entryway Maintenance

  • Use double doormats (one outside, one inside) to reduce grime.

  • Set up a shoe tray or boot rack.

  • Keep a basket for gloves, scarves, and hats to avoid clutter.

🧊 Kitchen & Pantry Refresh

  • Clean out the fridge and freezer – toss expired items and wipe shelves.

  • Wipe down cabinets and backsplash areas.

  • Rotate pantry items and vacuum shelves to avoid crumbs and pests.

πŸ›οΈ Bedroom & Linen Care

  • Wash pillows and heavy blankets (check labels).

  • Vacuum under the bed and behind dressers.

  • Flip and rotate mattresses to reduce sagging.

🚿 Bathroom Deep Clean

  • Scrub tile grout and sanitize around the toilet base.

  • Wash or replace shower curtains and liners.

  • Run the exhaust fan while cleaning to prevent mold buildup.

🌬️ Air Quality Boosters

  • Use a humidifier (and clean it weekly to prevent mold).

  • Dust houseplants and check for pests.

  • Air out the house on milder days to let in fresh air.
